Checklist for purchasing an apartment

For first time buyers, an apartment seems to be the ideal property investment, from pricing to security and ease of maintenance. It may look like a convenient, hassle-free purchase, but consider the following before purchasing;

  1. Body Corporate - Those responsible for maintaining the building and its common areas. Question the services included in your levies, the regulations and services permitted under your ownership such as the allowance of pets and responsibility of maintenance on the apartment.
  2. Amenities within the area - Ensure that your apartment is in close proximity to facilities with ease of access to these places
  3. Parking bay - Confirm your unit's parking space and location
  4. Layout and structure - Be on alert for any structural defects in the apartment, such as cracks or mould issues
  5. Noise, light and air circulation - Important factors dependent on personal preferences
